Yesterday, I finished Leo Tolstoy’s novella. It explored Ivan's life, lavish lifestyle, marriage, and death. The novel starts with the news of Ivan's death and develops with people's thoughts about how Ivan’s death would be advantageous to their lives. Later, the novel focuses on Ivan’s point of view, starting with his adulthood, his passion for clothes and socializing, and his career. His ups and downs in life bring a sad tone.
What I loved about this novella is its focus on death. After the diagnosis, Ivan started to live in fear of death. Gradually as the pain started to become unbearable Ivan started to see the world with a skeptical eye. From his perspective, his family abandoned him. They no longer care about his life, and the only thing they seem to think about is his death. At the end of his life, Ivan no longer resisted death, accepted his situation, closed his eyes to this world, and opened to another universe.
